BMR celebrates the production of its thousandth squaring machine
Scandiano, Italy-based company BMR, one of the leading manufacturers of technologies for ceramic tile finishing, reached a major milestone in early 2017 when it supplied the thousandth squaring machine built in the last 26 years to the factory of Casalgrande Padana.
The first squaring/chamfering machines with Syncrobelt® solution specially developed for porcelain tiles date back to 1990. Enormous technological progress has been made over the last decade, leading first to the development in 2008 of SQUADRA, which marked the start of the age of large-format tiles and panels, and then in 2010 to the breakthrough of green-oriented technology with Squadra Dry, the award-winning eco-friendly 9-motor squaring machine. The latest development, the powerful Top Squadra Dry 12-motor squaring machine capable of dry grinding porcelain, was unveiled in 2014. This is the model of machine number 1,000.
Top Squadra Dry works on monoporosa, semi-stoneware and porcelain. As in the case of monoporosa, the dry grinding process for porcelain involves pulverising the removed material and using dedicated tools and 12 calibrators compared to the 9 on Squadra Dry. Top Squadra Dry brings significant advantages in terms of improved efficiency and lower environmental impact, as Paolo Spallanzani, production manager at Casalgrande Padana, explained: “We have completely eliminated water consumption and made the process much more efficient while reducing wear on the mechanical parts of the machine. Waste treatment is also easier without the need for dedicated chemical or physical processes.” Significant savings also derive from the fact that water handling equipment is not required.
