Esmalglass-Itaca: Innovation, design and sustainability

At Cersaie 2025, Esmalglass-Itaca is presenting its solutions for a more responsible ceramic industry.

Esmalglass-Itaca is returning to Cersaie 2025 with a portfolio of solutions designed to promote a more creative, innovative and sustainable ceramic industry, a sector in which excellence is the key to material evolution and progress.

The company has established itself as the technological leader within the Altadia Group thanks to its commitment to developing high value-added products. For years it has been recognised as a strategic, reliable partner for global manufacturers, improving their competitiveness, supporting product differentiation and driving innovation. Its focus on service goes hand-in-hand with its deep understanding of processes and its commitment to advancing the frit, glaze and digital ink sector.

At Cersaie 2025, Esmalglass-Itaca will present a suite of eco-sustainable solutions focused on research and the application of new technologies. These efficient, innovative and advanced solutions meet the needs of a highly competitive, environmentally conscious market.

The development of water-based digital glazes, the reduction of emissions and the optimisation of resources are just a few examples of how the company has transformed its values into tangible actions.

DigitalGlass

DigitalGlass is a range of water-based digital glazes free from organic solvents and applied using inkjet technology. These glazes reduce water consumption by a factor of up to ten, cut odour emissions by up to 90%, lower atmospheric emissions and reduce waste by up to 40%. This sustainable innovation has transformed ceramic production, enabling greater automation, significantly speeding up model changeovers, reducing labour requirements and improving responsiveness to market demands. This marks a significant step forward in terms of operational efficiency within the ceramic industry.

Low-emission ink sets

Esmalglass-Itaca’s ink sets are designed to meet the challenges of modern ceramic decoration in line with the industry priorities of sustainability, performance and aesthetic quality. Formulated to reduce emissions and eliminate flue odours, they offer greater application versatility, even with high application weights or complex decorative effects.

Within this range, the Hydro set stands out: a line of water-based inks that represents the greatest step forward in reducing carbon emissions, without compromising on aesthetics and technological innovation.

Frits produced with Hydrogen

Esmalglass-Itaca is actively involved in the H2Frit project – a pioneering initiative led by ANFFECC and funded by the Generalitat Valenciana – which has demonstrated the technical feasibility of producing ceramic frits using hydrogen as fuel. This breakthrough represents a true milestone for the sector, marking a decisive step on the path toward decarbonization and the energy transition.

Hydrogen is a real alternative to fossil fuels for frit production, one of the most demanding and energy-intensive processes, and thanks to this innovation it is possible to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. Esmalglass-Itaca’s participation in the project confirms its commitment to sustainability and positions the company as an international benchmark in industrial innovation.

The technical success achieved with H2Frit confirms that the application of hydrogen in frit production is not only feasible but also strategic, paving the way for a future in which ceramics stand out not only for their aesthetic and technical quality but also for their active contribution to a cleaner, more sustainable planet.

All three solutions offer tangible environmental and economic benefits, particularly in terms of reduced emissions and water usage. Today, Esmalglass-Itaca is recognised as a global benchmark within the ceramic industry and is known worldwide for its strategy, intelligent actions and core values. Its success is built on solid foundations, including an international technical network; a capacity to integrate design, technology and processes; robust industrial and logistical infrastructure; a customer-centric culture rooted in excellence; and of course corporate values where quality is non-negotiable and long-term partnerships are built on trust, expertise and proximity to the customer.
