Focus on Coverings, Spain confirms its importance in the United States
These figures were announced by Pedro Riaza, general manager of Ascer (Spanish ceramic tile manufacturers’ association), during a press conference held late yesterday afternoon at Coverings, in the association’s magnificent institutional stand styled after a Roman theatre.
Although exports in the sector have fallen compared to 2002 both worldwide and to the USA, Spain maintains a leading position in the international marketplace. Exports account for 59% of the total value of production.
In 2003 the Spanish tile industry served 186 markets and exported a total of 334.5 million square metres (6% down on 2002). Spain holds a 26.9% share of world tile trade.
The Spanish pavilion at Coverings 2004 comprises 79 companies in a gross exhibition space of about 9,300 square metres (net 5,600 square metres). Participation is promoted by Icex (Spanish foreign trade institute) and Ascer.
As always the Spanish pavilion not only featured high-quality tiles and eye-catching stands, but also offered visitors paella and wine during their lunch breaks. (The photos show the Spanish pavilion at Coverings)
