Italian tiles in Chicago
The Italian pavilion is hosting about 100 manufacturers. The heart of the pavilion comprises the now familiar “Ceramic Tiles of Italy” space, designed for the third and last time by world-famous architect Bernard Tschumi and this year featuring a dazzling combination of colours ranging from cobalt blue to red and orange combined with an original tile display style.
The exhibit focuses on the theme of design in everyday life.
The packed programme of events for the exhibition will begin on 17 April with a cocktail reception organised by Ceramic Tiles of Italy in cooperation with the Chicago chapter of the Italo-American Chamber of Commerce.
Along with the tasting of typical Italian dishes and wine, the reception will feature the presentation of the 2007 edition of the Distributor Award assigned by Confindustria Ceramica.
The International Press Conference discussing the current state of the Italian ceramic sector will be held on Wednesday 18 April.
Various sector representatives will take part in the debate, including Enzo Mularoni, Vice Chairman for Promotional Activities, Confindustria Ceramica; Aniello Musella, Trade Commissioner for North America, ICE; and Franco Vantaggi, director general of Confindustria Ceramica.
The winners of the various architectural and design awards in the residential, commercial and institutional projects submitted this year will also be announced.
Another important appointment will be the seminar entitled “Green Materials for Green Architecture” given by Arturo Mastelli, industry consultant and chairman of AM&A, on 18 April.
Then on the morning of 19 April the modernist architect Michael P. Johnson will talk about ventilated facades, raised floors and the use of large-format tiles in architecture.
Finally, on the afternoon of the same day, Richard Fleischman will present a case study entitled: “Porcelain Tile Encapsulating Nine Educational Buildings”.
