Porcelanosa begins complete renewal of its plants

The Porcelanosa Group, a global player in the ceramic manufacturing arena and Spain's leading ceramic enterprise, has begun a radical renewal of its production plants as part of a continuous improvement policy aimed at enhancing quality and optimising the production process.

The process of renewing the production plant, commissioned from Sacmi, will be completed within a year. In the earth preparation department, a MMC120 continuous grinding mill will replace the 8 discontinuous grinding mills currently in use. This will bring major energy savings, a reduction in cost and an improvement in the quality of the ground powders.

Over the coming months, the six existing presses will be replaced with another six PH5000L units with higher pressing forces (up to 49,000 kN) suitable for the production of larger tiles. The drying department will also be upgraded, in some cases by adapting existing machines to keep pace with the increased outputs of the presses and in others by installing new dryers to replace the existing ones entirely.

A brand new FMP285 single-layer roller kiln with a length of 109.2 metres, equipped with all the latest gas and electricity consumption reduction devices, will allow Porcelanosa to achieve further energy savings while at the same time reducing CO₂ emissions. This will further improve the company's green credentials after obtaining ISO 18001 certification for its commitment to cutting environmentally harmful emissions.
