While the “manufacturing cost” component continued to rise slightly to 5.25 euro/sq.m, the commercial and administrative costs fell respectively to 1.76 and 1.94 euro/sq.m.
As for the individual items making up manufacturing costs, the costs of raw materials for bodies and glazes and colours as well as personnel costs all increased in 2003.
Double fired tile was the product type with the greatest increase in manufacturing cost (up 8 cents/sq.m, +1.6%), while the smallest increase was shown by unglazed porcelain tile (up 2 cents/sq.m to 5.92 euro/sq.m, followed by glazed porcelain tile (up 3 cents/sq.m on 2002 to 5.64 euro/sq.m).
Single fired tile saw a substantial fall in costs, more than 2% for both types.
