The BASF chemicals group has sold its Construction Chemicals division to the private equity fund Lone Star. The purchase price on a cash and debt-free basis amounts to 3.17 billion euros.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2020 subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities. “Our aim was to find a new home for our Construction Chemicals business where it can leverage its full potential,” explained Saori Dubourg, a member of BASF’s Board of Directors and head of Construction Chemicals business. “Under the umbrella of Lone Star, the Construction Chemicals team can focus on a growth path with an industry-specific approach.”
With over 7,000 employees, BASF Construction Chemicals has production sites and sales branches in over 60 countries and generated revenues of around 2.5 billion euros in 2018.
According to Donald Quintin, President for Europe at Lone Star, BASF’s Construction Chemicals business fits very well with the fund’s extensive investment portfolio in the construction materials and related industries.
