Ceramica Domino: growth based on Continua technology
A new production line has been successfully installed and started up at Ceramica Domino (Portugal). The heart of the system is the tried and tested Continua technology, capable of producing porcelain tiles of any size and thickness customised both on the surface and through the body. This line has been fully operational since last summer, allowing Ceramica Domino to present new products developed jointly with the Sacmi R&D lab at the recent Cersaie. The core product is the 1200x1200 mm tile, available in a range of thicknesses and textures.
The configuration of the Continua line is enhanced by the inclusion of Sacmi-patented devices capable of producing unique products with outstanding technical and aesthetic quality. The line features dry digital decoration (DDD) machines, which distribute spray dried powders, glazes and flakes with unrivalled precision and repeatability. A TPV cutting machine produces the main 1200x1200 mm size and sub-multiples from unfired material prior to pressing. SFS upper forming dies made by Sacmi M&D featuring cutting-edge solutions for rapid size changes were also supplied. The PH7500 high tonnage press has also been equipped with the CRS rapid die changeover system, allowing sizes to be changed in less than 30 minutes. Special care has been devoted to every detail on the line, both upstream and downstream of the press, to ensure maximum output flexibility. This is a particularly crucial factor in markets that are steadily evolving towards the production of ever smaller batches of high-value products in a range of sizes. The line is completed by a 5-layer ECP 307/19.7 horizontal dryer built by Sacmi Forni.
