Cersaie 2007 meets Mario Botta
The Swiss-born architect, whose ceramic installation “Guscio” was on display at the 2007 FuoriSalone of the Milan Triennial, will take part in the event entitled “Architecture and Memory”, promoted by Confindustria Ceramica and organised by Edi.Cer, as part of the architecture day held every year at Cersaie and which last year saw the participation of Massimiliano Fuksas and Pritzker prize-winner Thom Mayne.
Botta embarked on his career in Lugano in 1970, and his work is characterised by a capacity to experiment with architecture as a means of constructing of context, and in which the setting forms an integral part of the project.
His countless works include: André Malraux Theatre and Cultural Centre, Chambéry, France (1987); mediatheque, Villeurbanne, France (1988); SFMOMA Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, USA (1995); Jean Tinguely Museum, Basel, Switzerland (1996); synagogue and Jewish heritage centre, Tel Aviv, Israel (1998); the municipal library, Dortmund, Germany (1999); MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rovereto, Italy (2003); Kyobo Tower, Seoul, South Korea (2003); restoration of Teatro alla Scala, Milan (2004); Tschuggen Berg Oase wellness centre, Arosa, Switzerland (2006).
