Giovanni Savorani designated chairman of Confindustria Ceramica
Giovanni Savorani, chairman of Gigacer (Faenza, Ravenna) is the candidate nominated for the chairmanship of Confindustria Ceramica for the two-year period June 2018 - May 2020. He was nominated at the Board Meeting on 10 April by the association’s Designation Committee consisting of Franco Manfredini, Alfonso Panzani and Sergio Sassi. The new chairman will be elected at the association’s Annual Members’ Meeting to be held on 6 June.
Savorani, 69, will take over from Vittorio Borelli who has led the Association of Italian Ceramics for the last 4 years. Commenting on his designation, Savorani said: “I would like to thank all my colleagues for the trust they have shown me in nominating me for this position of great prestige and responsibility. Over the years our Association has proved that a shared commitment and participation on the part of companies can produce outstanding results for the Italian ceramic industry in an increasingly competitive international environment. I will do everything I can to carry on these efforts in the future.”
Giovanni Savorani began his career in 1970, holding various appointments for several different ceramic companies including Cast and Coop. Ceramica d’Imola. In 1990 he joined Sacmi as Sales Director. In 1994 he was appointed Managing Director of Ceramiche La Faenza and in 2005 took over the same position at Coop. Ceramica d’Imola. In 2006 he set up Gigacer, a company with 73 employees and an output of around 1.2 million sq.m of 120x120 cm size porcelain floor tiles, produced right from the start using Continua technology from Sacmi.
Savorani has been a member of the Board of Confindustria Ceramica since 2013 and is a member of the Technical Standards Committee as well as representing the association at the shareholders’ meeting of Centro Ceramico.
