Global warming: starting out from construction

Climate change is the biggest threat facing mankind. According to studies by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the average global temperature may rise by as much as 4.5-4.8°C by the end of the century if preventive action is not taken.

The Paris Climate Conference, held in December 2015 with the participation of 195 countries and with the EU countries present for the first time as a single block, established that the temperature rise must be kept to “well below 2°C” and if possible limited to 1.5°C. To meet this target, emissions must begin to decline as of 2020.

To achieve this, upgrading the housing stock is without question the most important single response that can be made by Italy and indeed the whole of Europe.

Brick World Review spoke to Norbert Lantschner, a leading environmental sustainability expert, founder of CasaClima, current chairman of the ClimAbita Foundation, and SAIE consultant on energy issues and green building.
