Poster for Cersaie 2009 to be designed by Mario Botta
The acclaimed architect Mario Botta, the creator of numerous works and winner of major international awards, will design the poster for this year’s Cersaie (Bologna, 29 September – 3 October 2009).
Botta described how he derived inspiration for the poster from the concept of “Il Guscio” (the “Shell”), his first work based on ceramic tiles which was exhibited at the Triennale in Milan during the Saloni del Mobile.
“Architecture is gravity, form and matter that accommodates people and life. Ceramic originates from Mother Earth. With this image I wanted to recall where we come from, what we are made of, where we live. And also where we are going: the future is already here.” It thus represents a kind of return to our origins in which ceramic, as a natural element made of earth and fire, envelops us entirely in a plastic fashion like a “maternal uterus”.
