Wienerberger and Bongioanni Stampi team up to optimise roof tile weight
After renewing its Alegra 12 (former FD) line of roof tiles and accessories, Wienerberger Netherlands has restyled its OVH roof tile in collaboration with Bongioanni Stampi, the Austrian giant’s longstanding technological partner.
As well as improving simplicity of installation by increasing the joint clearances and optimising strength while maintaining the traditional aesthetics, a study was conducted with the aim of minimising the tile’s weight.
Finite element method (FEM) calculations were performed to examine the structure of the tile with the goal of significantly reducing weight per square metre. The project brought numerous advantages in terms of reduced energy consumption for drying and firing, less clay usage and a lower pallet weight and weight per square metre, making the tiles simpler to install.
