The Berca factory plays a role in wienerberger’s sustainability strategy

The Berca facility, in Romania, is regarded as a centre of excellence for eco-friendly brick production.

By focusing on decarbonization, the circular economy and biodiversity, the Austrian wienerberger group is paving the way for a sustainable future in line with the European Green Deal. The company intends to cut production emissions by an additional 25% by 2026 and increase the percentage of recyclable or reusable products to over 90%. By the same year, 75% of total revenues will come from products used to construct net-zero buildings with a neutral carbon footprint.

Last year, wienerberger took another major step towards its climate neutrality goal with the modernisation of its brick production facility in Berca, Romania. Sustainability was a key focus of this investment, and today the factory meets the highest standards of production efficiency and reduced use of resources. Thanks to a new drying process, carbon emissions at the facility have been reduced by approximately 4,000 tons per year.

The Berca plant, which was officially reopened on 16 September 2024, is regarded as a centre of excellence for eco-friendly brick production and is an essential part of wienerberger’s sustainability strategy. The facility is located near Bucharest, a city with significant construction activity and strong demand for products suitable for zero-emission buildings.

wienerberger has been present in Romania since 1998 and is one of the country’s largest producers of building materials. The company operates a total of seven production sites in the country and employs around 550 people.
