Capital Brick acquired by Brickworks North America
The acquisition, carried out through the subsidiary Glen-Gery, is a strategic bolt-on for expanding the existing footprint in the Maryland and Virginia markets and for driving sales of premium architectural products.
In February, Brickworks North America acquired Capital Brick, a leading Upper Marlboro, Maryland-based distributor of masonry products, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Glen-Gery.
Capital Brick has been a leading distributor of architectural masonry products serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area since 1981 and has been one of Glen-Gery’s top architectural customers for many years.
According to Mark Ellenor, President, Brickworks N.A., the acquisition is a strategic bolt-on to expand on the existing footprint in the Maryland and Virginia markets and will help drive sales of premium architectural products.
The operation coincides with two major expansion projects for Glen-Gery: the recent launch of a new design studio in Baltimore’s Fells Point neighbourhood and the construction of a modern masonry supply centre in Manassas, Virginia.
Since Brickworks N.A. entered the North American market in 2018, it has acquired three major brick manufacturers and a second masonry supplier. In August 2021, it acquired 17 masonry supply centres in Illinois and Indiana from Southfield Corporation, bringing the network of company-owned distribution locations to 27.
Brickworks North America is owned by Australian giant Brickworks, which acquired Glen-Gery from Ibstock for US$151 million in 2018.
