Casalgrande Padana wins the prestigious "Iconic Awards 2013"

On 7 October this year, Casalgrande Padana won the prestigious "Iconic Award" for its products "Bios Self-Cleaning" and "Bios Antibacterial". This is the latest in a long list of international recognitions awarded to the bio-active ceramic products manufactured by the company from Casalgrande (RE).

The award is sponsored by the German Design Council, a Foundation created in 1953 under the aegis of the BDI (German Industry Confederation). Its aim is to support and promote the project and design culture as a key for competitiveness, innovation, research and sustainability, to be achieved through holistic and cross-disciplinary processes, capable of improving the overall quality of architectural design and products.

And it was precisely because of this idea behind the granting of the award, that the integrated research processes, international cooperation, dialogue with universities and specialist organisations, production and certification of the work undertaken for the design and the industrial engineering of Bios Self-Cleaning® and Bios Antibacterial®, were been chosen by the German Design Council as outstanding examples of a holistic best practice to be brought to the attention of designers and entrepreneurs worldwide.

The products

Bios Self-Cleaning®, the result of a Master Agreement with the Japanese Group TOTO, is a range of ceramic slabs developed for external facades. Due to their special treatment, based on the HYDROTECT® technology, when hit by sunlight, Bios Self-Cleaning® tiles trigger a reaction that reduces airborne pollutants and decomposes the dirt that settles on the ceramic surface, allowing it to be naturally washed away by rainwater.

The collection is extremely versatile, as the HYDROTECT® technology is available on request for every product range.

Bios Antibacterial® is a range of porcelain tiles for floor and wall covering with definite and certified antibacterial properties, that reduce the main bacterial strains present in confined environments by 99.9%. Bios Antibacterial® also works in conditions with no light and is even more effective in humid environments, typically fertile ground for bacterial growth.

The range comes in two product versions:

Bios Antibacterial HYDROTECT®, designed for residential or light commercial environments, spas, fitness centres and swimming pools. Available on request for all the products listed in the Casalgrande Padana range;

Bios Antibacterial GRANITOGRES®, suitable in high-traffic environments such as shopping centres, airports, schools, industrial areas, etc. Available on request only for the Granitogres range.
