Cemacon upgrades its plant in Romania with Cosmec

Cosmec met the customer’s expectations by installing an automatic cutting line to improve the quality of its range and launch innovative products onto the market.

Cosmec’s high level of specialisation in the field of automation is illustrated by its recent collaboration with Cemacon, a long-standing Romanian company with over 50 years of experience in the heavy clay industry as well as an expanding range of activities in the construction sector. The largest Romanian-owned clay block manufacturer and the market leader in Transylvania, Cemacon wanted to upgrade its plant in order to improve the quality of its range and launch innovative products onto the market.

Cosmec met the customer’s expectations by installing a cutting line consisting of an electronic cutter, a conveyor belt and two robotic gripping units while also modifying the existing platform handling system.

The new-generation electronic cutter performs high-precision cutting and is less susceptible to wire wear thanks to the mobile device driven by brushless motors. It also allows for greater freedom in the selection of cutting length, thereby speeding up the size change operation.

The collection belt is perfectly synchronised with the cutter and ensures that the products are evenly spaced out, while the tracking system installed on the robotic units allows products to be picked up while moving.

Two new five-head grippers have been installed to improve wet product handling during dryer platform loading. Instead of the customary pneumatic cylinders, the grippers are driven by brushless motors which allow them to grip the product more gently while ensuring rapid and effective handling.

To accommodate the new cutting line, the existing platform handling system had to be modified with the addition of chain conveyors and double belt transfer units.  Two platform loading stations and the necessary buffer storage units were created to allow for the increase in production requested by the customer.

The machinery is currently under construction at Cosmec’s factory in Verona and is scheduled for delivery over the coming months.

A very similar plant to that of Cemacon was installed in 2021 at the factory of Calabrian brick maker Latersud in Italy.
