The ceramic industry mourns Sergio Sassi
Sergio Sassi, CEO of Emilceramica, has died at the age of 63
The ceramic world has suffered another tragic loss. Sergio Sassi, CEO of Emilceramica, one of the leading companies in the sector founded in 1961 and now present in over 5,500 points of sale in more than 70 countries worldwide, has died at the age of 63 from an incurable illness.
A graduate in Economics and Commerce from the University of Modena, Sassi continued to lead the Fiorano Modenese-based company following its acquisition by the Marazzi Group in 2017 and incorporation into the Mohawk Industries Group.
He held a number of positions within the Italian Employers’ Federation Confindustria during his career. He served as Chairman of Assopiastrelle (now Confindustria Ceramica) from 2001 to 2005 and as a Director and member of the Chairman’s Committee of Confindustria Emilia, and was a member of the Energy and Internationalisation Committees and the Technical Committee “Protection of Trademarks and the Fight against Counterfeiting” of Confindustria. Sassi was also vice chairman of the Sassuolo Calcio football club and a founding member of the Faber foundation committed to promoting business culture in the Emilia-Romagna region.
