Ceramic products go to university
The course, opened on 28 April by Enzo Mularoni, Assopiastrelle director responsible for promotional and trade show activities, and by architects Hani Rashid and Massimo Iosa Ghini, will last until mid-June and will be attended by 45 students from 35 different countries.
The young architects will explore the concept of architectural shell applied to experimentation in ceramic products.
The initiative follows the architectural conference entitled "Involucri" [Shells] held at Cersaie 2002 and aims to provide further analysis of the concepts expressed by the speakers at the event: architects Shigeru Uchida (Japan), Hani Rashid (USA), Marcio Kogan and Isay Weinfeld (Brazil), and Italian designer Massimo Iosa Ghini.
A selection of the students' work will be presented at an exhibition at the next Cersaie, to be held in Bologna from 30 September to 5 October 2003.
The in-focus section contains a short info sheet on the Domus Academy
The Domus Academy was set up in 1983 as a post-graduate training centre and cultural laboratory focusing on Italian Design and Fashion.
It is now an international institute that strives to enhance, promote and improve design culture, drawing together aspects of Design, Web Design, Fashion and Management.
