Ceramiche Keope obtains certification for its PEF declaration
Ceramiche Keope (Concorde Group) is the first ceramic company in the world to obtain certification for its PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) covering the entire product life cycle. This voluntary certification scheme provides stakeholders with objective, comparable and credible information on environmental product performance.
The certification takes account of the activities of the entire supply chain, from raw materials extraction to production and the product end-of-life stage and confirms the company’s concrete commitment in the field of sustainability.
Reflecting its attention to people and consumers, Keope has also adopted the HPD (Health Product Declaration) open standard recognised by USGBC LEED and designed to promote reporting of product characteristics and provide information on health risks for all parties involved in the project.
Keope’s focus on sustainability dates back to 2004 when it voluntarily completed the process of verifying and cutting its CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions (Kyoto Protocol), resulting in a series of initiatives aimed at improving overall efficiency.
Another milestone was the opening in 2012 of the new cogeneration plant, allowing for the reduction of direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions and self-production of electrical energy.
The company has continued to renew its production technology over the years with the aim of improving efficiency and energy consumption as part of the Greenthinking project. For years Keope has also been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the organisation that introduced the independent LEED certification system.
