Ceramiche Vaccari up for sale
The names of possible purchasers are still highly secret, although a large Austrian tile manufacturing group has been mentioned and a certain interest has been shown by Spanish and Swiss companies. The sale could take place by early April.
Ceramica Ligure Vaccari was founded in 1870 in Ponzano Magra. The multinational Villeroy & Boch Group acquired a 70% shareholding in the company in 1997 and has been sole owner since January 2001. In October the same year the Vaccari brand name was also incorporated into that of the parent company, taking on the name Villeroy & Boch Italia.
In 2002 the company reported a turnover of about 33 million euro with a production of 2.34 million square metres of floor tiles. About 70% of production was exported.
The Villeroy & Boch Group is the world’s largest ceramic producer (tiles, sanitaryware, tableware) and closed fiscal 2002 with a total turnover of about 977.5 million euro.
The Group is based in Mettlach, Germany and is listed on the Frankfurt stock market. It has 21 factories in 12 European countries and its products are sold in 125 countries worldwide.
