Chemical companies hold factory open days in May
The UN has proclaimed 2011 the International Year of Chemistry as part of the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).
The Italian chemicals industry is taking this important opportunity to participate in the Open Factories project, an initiative launched by Federchimica in 1987 to promote a dialogue with local communities. Backed by the Ministry for Economic Development, the trade unions and INAIL (Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority), the project will also be a chance for the sector to demonstrate the improvements in its industrial activities and the progress it has made in protecting health, safety and the environment.
During the central two weeks of May (7 - 22), more than 90 companies will open their factory gates as a demonstration of their openness and willingness to dialogue with the public (citizens, institutions, schools), who will have a chance to visit the various departments, production cycle, research laboratories and plants.
