Eczacibasi acquires German company Engers

27/02/06 - At the end of 2005, the Turkish Eczacibasi Group, a manufacturer of ceramic tiles and sanitaryware marketed under the VitrA brand name, finalised the acquisition of the German ceramic company Engers Keramik, which has been operating since 1911 and has an annual production of 2.3 million sq.m of tiles.
The investment has a total value of 20 million euro and will allow the Turkish multinational to acquire a 5% share of the German ceramic tile market, where it intends to continue to operate under both the VitrA and Engers brand names.
The group already holds a 13% share of the German ceramic sanitaryware market.

The investment in Germany is just one of the initiatives planned by the Eczacıbaşı Group in the ceramic sector.
According to chairman and managing director Erdal Karamercan, the Eczacibasi Group also plans to open a new factory in Russia.
Along with the other planned investments, this will contribute to bringing the Group a production capacity of 25 million sq.m of VitrA brand tiles in 2006, equivalent to about 200 million dollars.
