Fincibec invests in Eko solutions from Sacmi

A new EkoKiln from Sacmi Forni and an EkoRoll packaging machine from Nuova Fima were recently installed at the Century factory in Roteglia, Reggio Emilia, owned by Fincibec group, which installed a second EkoRoll at its Sassuolo facility.

Fincibec, for more than half a century one of the Italian and international market leaders in the production of glazed and unglazed porcelain floor and wall tiles, has chosen the Eko solutions from Sacmi to strengthen its position in the high-end market given that they combine productivity, efficiency and attention to the environment. These eco-friendly characteristics ensure savings of materials and energy while at the same time guaranteeing the reliability and quality of the finished products.

The EkoKiln kiln adopted by Century has a width of 2950 mm and stands out for its features for reducing gas consumption and fume volumes and for the cutting-edge system designed to optimise heat flows between fumes and product. This system uses a series of thermal cells that exploit transversal flows to exchange energy between the fumes and the material. As with all Eko line solutions, the kiln is designed to bring considerable savings in operating costs while using special algorithms to optimise the firing curve and thereby guarantee superior finished product quality, even in the case of complex products with a high unit value such as large sizes.

The two new EkoRoll packaging lines produced by Nuova Fima (a Sacmi Group member company specialising the production of plant and machinery for handling, storage and quality control) are able to reduce the quantity of cardboard used by 65% or more (depending on the sizes), while at the same time ensuring greater protection of tile corners. The result is a high degree of rationalisation of cardboard stocks (supplied as unbranded single-size rolls), which improves the efficiency of the process and brings considerable savings in terms of management costs. This "just in time" solution represents a new packaging concept, combining "minimal packaging" with the need to be able to handle very large sizes efficiently.
