Gemma, innovation and sustainability in Egypt
In an exclusive interview with Ceramic World Review, Karim Abdel Galil, General Manager of Gemma, discusses the achievements and future prospects of the company.
Founded in 1989 in Sadat City, Al Ezz Ceramics & Porcelain (Gemma) is one of Egypt’s leading manufacturers of high-end ceramic and porcelain tiles. Continuous investments in cutting-edge Italian technology have enabled the company to stand out for its design, innovation and production capacity, which now stands at 18 million square metres annually. These achievements were recognised last September at Tecna 2024 in Rimini, where Gemma won the Innovation and Sustainability category of the TecnAwards 2024 for the best technology investment in Africa in the last two years.
“Our current portfolio – says Gemma’s Managing Director Karim Abdel Galil - covers a wide range of single-fired ceramic and porcelain tiles in sizes ranging from 20x60 cm to 60x180 cm and 80x160 cm. With our advanced automation and robotic systems for product selection and packaging, we are able to meet ever-growing demand with rapid and reliable deliveries. We monitor quality in every step of the process, from design to manufacture and distribution, and these efforts are reflected in our excellent results.
Despite increased instability and geopolitical tensions in the region, our total sales grew by 22% in the first half of 2024, with domestic sales up 34% on the same period of the previous year.
Our focus on product quality, rapid deliveries and low logistics costs make us a natural fit for Egypt’s large-scale development projects, whether residential or mixed-use projects”.
