Geopolymers and their applications

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Italian Ceramic Society, with the backing of Acimac, have organised a study day on geopolymers to be held on Wednesday 12 November from 9.00 to 12.30 at Acimac's headquarters in Villa Marchetti (Baggiovara, province of Modena).

Geopolymers are synthetic materials that can potentially be used in numerous sectors and adapt to the widest range of applications, particularly in the building industry. For example, these materials provide greater resistance to chemicals, particularly acids, and allow for interesting developments in terms of temperature of use. As a result, they are attracting growing interest from the ceramic world.
The study day will focus on applications in the building sector, inertisation of hazardous materials and catalytic applications.

The meeting will be chaired by Paolo Zannini, chairman of the Italian Ceramic Society and professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and will feature talks by Cristina Leonelli (Department of Materials and Environmental Engineering, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia), Maria Chiara Bignozzi (Department of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science, University of Bologna), Raffaele Ciuffi (Department of Technology, Parthenope University of Naples), Valentina Medri (Istec-Cnr of Faenza) and Leonardo Esposito (Centro Ceramico Bologna).
