An increasingly large and modern exhibition centre in Rimini

28/11/03 - The work on the new Rimini Fiera railway station inside the exhibition centre and on the extension of the exhibition halls is proceeding perfectly to schedule.
According to Lorenzo Cagnoni, "The station will be opened in January 2004 and will be located to the left of the main (south) entrance of Rimini Fiera.
Situated on the Milan-Bari rail line, there will be both regular and charter train services during the exhibition. This will facilitate attendance of both Italian and foreign visitors and will allow strong synergies to be established with other exhibition venues."
"The project," Cagnoni continued, "was developed by Hamburg-based architecture firm GMP, renowned not only for trade fair architecture but also for designing major railway stations, most recently the new central station in Berlin. The cost of the work is about 5.8 million euro. The station will have an excellent aesthetic and environmental impact. It will have a 350-metre-long roof and a subway with lift to eliminate architectural barriers. The buildings located on either side of the roof will house the waiting room, ticket office, exhibition info points and shops. The service timetable for 2004 has already been established with the Italian rail operator. Trains will run on a total of 53 days a year with 16 services a day to and from Rimini Fiera during the main exhibitions, including obviously Tecnargilla."

But the railway station is not the only new building at Rimini Fiera.
"The exhibition centre is undergoing rapid development," added Cagnoni. "The first expansion stage began on 18 June, increasing the gross exhibition area from the current 82,000 to 109,000 square metres and the net area to more than 69,000 sq.m. The project, again by GMP, is entirely in keeping with the architectural style of the entire complex. A total of four new halls will be built, two on the west side which will be ready for handing over at the end of August 2004 and two on the east side which will be ready at the end of August 2005.

The services have been considerably upgraded so as to make the two side entrances totally independent in the event of different shows being held at the same time. There will be 12 new flexible conference halls seating from 70 to 140 people and designed for use by both professionals and the press, as well as two new free-flow restaurants and two new bars.

"Extension work on the offices is also in progress. Once again the works completion times have been announced and two sentences, one by Einstein and the other by Goethe, are displayed at the main entrance to inspire progress that focuses on human beings, their work and aspirations."
