Industrie Bitossi celebrates 40th anniversary

22/06/07 - The 40th anniversary celebrations of the Colorobbia Group member company Industrie Bitossi (based in Sovigliana Vinci, province of Florence, Italy) were held in Spezzano Castle on 13 June this year. The event was attended by more than a hundred guests from the leading ceramic companies in the Sassuolo district.

Guests were welcomed by Industrie Bitossi chairman Loriano Bocini, who outlined the key steps in the company’s development. Founded in March 1967, it is now the world leader in the supply of alumina grinding media for the ceramic industry (Alubit 90), as well as one of the leading producers of micronised zirconium silicate (Zircobit).

The event also provided an opportunity to present the latest addition to the Industrie Bitossi range: “Alubit Leonardo”, a new grinding medium designed to respond more effectively to the increasingly stringent requirements of grinding. The company’s Technical Ceramics Division has reviewed all the production stages and succeeded in improving the product’s microstructure (spheres, microspheres and cylinders), giving it greater density, wear resistance and toughness while maintaining the alumina content stable at 90% in order to keep down production costs.

As Loriano Bocini noted in his address, Industrie Bitossi closed 2006 with a turnover of 44 million euro and exports to 65 countries. Investments over the last 4 years have totalled about 20 million euro.
