LB wins contract in Africa
LB Technology, a company based in Fiorano Modenese (province of Modena, Italy) specialising in the design and construction of complete plants for the production of ready-mixed building products, recently secured a major order in Nigeria. A 120,000 square metre industrial area for a new terminal is being built in the port of Lagos to handle and store more than 400,000 tons of bulk building materials, for which purpose LB will supply the complete raw materials reception plant from storage and extraction through to transport to the packaging lines. This is a very large plant that has required enormous design efforts. Five innovative reception structures are envisaged for the storage of materials during the first stage. There are already plans to double production capacity and to install an industrial system for crushing and grinding of raw materials to be used for local production of finished product.
Along with LB, other companies involved in construction of the plant are the Italian firm Technipes, a leading manufacturer of packaging machinery based in Santarcangelo di Romagna (the lead supplier for the project), and the Swedish firm Mac Gregor which specialises in ship loading and unloading systems. Mac Gregor will take care of the entire stage of unloading cement powders from ships and transferring them to LB plants. By means of extraction, batching and transport systems, the powders are conveyed to Technipes automatic packaging lines sized for a productivity of 7,200 bags/hour ready for the logistics and distribution department. But LB's role will not be limited to supplying the plant. The technical staff working on site will perform testing and will transfer know-how to local technicians, allowing them to manage the plant themselves while at the same time assuring a continuous technical support service.
