Lecico expands

The Lecico group, a leading ceramic tile and sanitaryware producer with facilities in Egypt and Lebanon, has announced the start-up of a new production site in Boge El-Srab (Alexandria). The investment will increase the group’s production capacity by 17 million square metres, of which 12.8 million square metres will consist of red body tiles and 4.2 million square metres glazed porcelain tile, increasing existing production by 70%.
The expansion was prompted by the strong demand for Lecico products, especially in the Middle East, which the company was unable to meet even using its full production capacity.
The investment, estimated at around USD 42 million, will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will be operational by 2011 and will be capable of producing 2.1 million square metres of porcelain tile and 6.4 million square metres of red body tiles. The second phase will increase production of red body tiles and will be fully operational between mid 2013 and early 2015.
