Minerali Industriali publishes its third Sustainability Report
Minerali Industriali is presenting its third Sustainability Report for the year 2022.
Minerali Industriali has unveiled its third Sustainability Report for the year 2022, a document that provides a detailed account of the Novara-based Group’s ongoing commitment to environmental, economic and social progress, as well as the long-term approach and vision it has adopted to successfully meet global challenges and respond positively to the expectations of its stakeholders.
By steadily incorporating ESG issues into its business model and making continuous investments, Minerali Industriali achieved most of the sustainability targets it had set for 2022.
Specifically, it completed 19 in-person audits of selected suppliers on ESG issues and established important parameters in terms of kg CO2 produced and tonnes of recycled product compared to total product sold. Looking beyond 2022, achievable targets include continued efforts to obtain energy certification at an additional site, completion of an internal campaign aimed at raising awareness and training on ESG issues, and a 2% reduction in reliance on non-renewable energy sources by 2021, with +3,994 GJ of self-generated electricity recorded last year.
For 2023, the Group has made further pledges in terms of the environment (monitoring and quantification of its Italian companies’ emissions at a product and plant level), social issues (interdepartmental training courses and corporate intranet) and governance (setting up a Sustainability Committee for foreign companies, and formally signing up to the Global Compact and ESG networks and platforms).
In terms of the environment, Minerali Industriali also continues to perform well in recovering non-hazardous industrial waste and recycling glass, sand and ceramic scrap. For this purpose it has adopted recovery plants designed to obtain secondary raw materials with the same quality as primary resources, thereby guaranteeing lower energy consumption during production.
In terms of social responsibility, the Group guarantees a healthy and safe workplace in which employees can grow and develop their knowledge while enjoying fair and merit-based treatment, equal opportunities and inclusivity. The goals set for 2023 include the adoption of two specific policies: one to promote respect for inviolable human rights both within the company and amongst outside contractors, partners and suppliers; and the other to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion among all employees and to identify courses of action for promoting inclusivity.
The Minerali Industriali group was founded about a century ago and today has 15 production units in Italy, 4 in other European countries, 1 in Asia, 3 in North Africa and 7 in Central and South America. It has more than 600 employees and in 2022 produced over 4 million tons of raw materials and posted revenues in excess of €200 million.
