Officine Smac participates in LIFE CAPT-TILE, the European green roof project
The project involves Italian and Polish partners and focuses on developing special clay roof tiles that enables plants to grow directly on rooftops.
Caring for the environment also means actively seeking sustainable solutions for green architecture, with the goal of tackling climate change and making cities more resilient and liveable. This is the founding principle of LIFE CAPT-TILE, a new European project involving Italian and Polish partners. The initiative focuses on developing special clay roof tiles designed to hold a layer of “mineral soil” that enables plants to grow directly on rooftops. The project makes a concrete contribution to combating climate change, as well as addressing issues of pollution and quality of life. Its aim is to create roofing systems that absorb atmospheric CO₂, improve air quality and support urban biodiversity. The tiles are designed to be lightweight, modular and easy to install, thereby reducing installation and maintenance costs.
The project brings together some of the leading European players in the fields of building construction and research. Alongside Officine Smac, the partners include: Industrie Cotto Possagno (project coordinator), the Marche Polytechnic University, International Projects Service – UNIVPM, the National Research Council of Italy, BGTeC Bergamo Tecnologie and Ater Padova, each contributing their specific expertise to the design, development and testing of the green tiles.
The project offers a concrete contribution to combating climate change, as well as addressing issues of pollution and quality of urban living.
