Refratechnik Group acquires Burton
The Refratechnik Group in Ismaning (Germany), a leading manufacturer of ceramic refractory products, has concluded an important strategic operation with the acquisition of the German company Burton, based in Melle, which will continue business operations under the name Refratechnik Ceramics. The acquisition, which has allowed all Burton employees to be kept on, will make Refratechnik Ceramics one of the largest global suppliers of refractory materials for industrial furnaces in the ceramics industry.
Founded in 1950, the Group has more than 1,200 employees worldwide, making it the largest family-owned company in the refractory business.
With Refratechnik Cement in Göttingen and Refratechnik Asia in Hong Kong, the Refratechnik Group is the global market leader for high-grade refractory linings for furnaces in the cement industry, and a reliable partner in the lime industry. Furthermore, with Refratechnik Steel in Düsseldorf, the Group is successful internationally in the metal-producing and metal-processing industries, while Baymag Inc. in Calgary, Canada, extracts and processes magnesite ore, a mineral which is widely used in the refractory industry. With the acquisition of Burton, the Refratechnik Group now has 18 sites in four continents, nine of which are manufacturers of refractory products.
