Riedhammer supplies equipment to Cuba
Sacmi Whiteware member company Riedhammer recently supplied plant to Cuban ceramic manufacturer Ceramica Blanca.
The consignment included all the in-line equipment for a ceramic sanitaryware manufacturing plant, from body preparation to mould-making technology (with the exception of body and glaze mills). The new line, which began operation a few months ago, was designed to produce over 150,000 sanitaryware articles a year (about 550 per day) using extremely energy-efficient methods throughout the process. About a third of output consists of WCs, together with the two washbasin models, one with pedestal.
What makes the San José plant so unusual is the installation of a special 9-car shuttle kiln designed by Riedhammer which runs on diesel fuel (the only fuel supply available locally) and has an 18-20 hour firing cycle.
