Sacmi celebrates 85th anniversary

03/12/04 - On 2 December Sacmi celebrated 85 years of activity. Founded in 1919 by a group of nine mechanics and technicians, the Imola-based cooperative is now the world’s largest supplier of technology for the ceramic industry.

Celebrations began with a convention where the guest of honour was Pier Ferdinando Casini, president of the Chamber of Deputies.

A donation of about 300,000 euro for the seventh operating theatre in Imola hospital was announced during the event. The festivities continued on 2 December with a concert by Antonella Ruggiero in Imola.

Two days later, on 4 December, former President of the European Commission Romano Prodi opened the Museum of Sacmi Technology (MUST). Extending over a 600 square metre area, the museum explores the most important steps in the Group’s history and illustrates the raw materials, processing techniques and technologies developed by Sacmi since the end of the First World War.
