Sanitaryware, RAK Ceramics reaches 1,500,000 pieces/year15 January 2003 - At the beginning of this year the sanitaryware output of RAK Ceramics will reach the record figure of 1,500,000 pieces/year. The UAE-based Group's production capacity has increased tenfold over the past decade, a period of time during which it has successful entered the Middle Eastern, European and American markets. RAK has recently extended its product range to include new fireclay articles.
This further increase in output is based on the use of machinery supplied by Sacmi Whiteware, the company's main partner, and will be operative by the end of the month. The Imola-based Group has supplied 2 new pressure casting units for washbasins and cisterns (a total of 14 have now been installed) along with a new SSK shuttle kiln with a capacity of 300,000 pieces/year which will allow perfect firing of both fireclay and vitreous ware and subsequent second firing.
A further increase in sanitaryware capacity is also to be made in Bangladesh, where RAK has already set up a tile production plant with a capacity of about 10,000 sq.m/day. A complete sanitaryware production plant with a capacity of 300,000 pieces/year is expected to be operative by the end of June 2003 and plans are already under way to double capacity soon afterwards.
