Success for Acimac's technical conference on "Finishing Technologies and Treatments for Ceramic Surfaces"
The technical conference on "Finishing Technologies and Treatments for Ceramic Surfaces" held on 24 October at Acimac's Modena headquarters was a success. Organised by Acimac in collaboration with Ceramic World Review magazine, the conference welcomed over 100 technical experts from the Italian ceramics sector. Among them were leading figures from major 'Made in Italy' tile brands, who are increasingly aware of the value that can be added by proper surface treatment and product finishes such as polishing, lapping and grinding.
Six technical reports were presented at the seminar. Prof. Paolo Zannini of the University of Modena acted as moderator for the afternoon, introducing the theme with a report entitled "Ceramic surface treatments: the state of the art and possible technological evolution". That was followed by a speech from Mariarosa Raimondo (Istec-CNR Faenza) on "The functionalisation of ceramic surfaces". Franco Ponsone and Vittorio Valeriani (Ancora Group) then illustrated "Ancora Group's new developments and solutions for ceramic finishing and treatments" - which include multicut waterjet cutting technology and polishing and lapping machines for large formats, as well as surface treatments using the HiCoat Coating System and EcoCat. Claudio Avanzi (BMR) focused on new solutions to offer "Greater value added with lapping".
"Magnificent Surfaces: Supershine" was the title of the report presented by Claudio Casolari and Massimo Taveri (Metco), who described the results of localised pore treatment on polished or semi-polished surfaces and of the Supergloss chemico-physical treatment. Lastly, Claudio Corradini (Smac) spoke about the characteristics of machines used for applying chemical treatment products in a speech entitled "Treating and refinishing ceramic surfaces with Non-Spot Line" - a complete line for the application of acids, anti-stain protection and antibacterial treatments of polished and semi-polished tiles.
