Waterford Wedgwood Group maintains market share

Waterford Wedgwood Group maintains market share27/05/2003 - The sales performance in January and February 2003 of the Waterford Wedgwood Group, a high-end tableware manufacturer with the Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood, Rosenthal and All-Clad brand names, has not met expectations and margins have been under pressure because of continuing weak demand from the major US store groups. Most of these stores reported same-store sales declines of between 3% and 5% last year. Waterford Wedgwood sales April 2002 - February 2003 grew by 1% (down 4.5% at actual exchange rates).

Despite the difficult global economic circumstances, the Group's underlying business remains strong. All four brands have all increased market share in their key markets. In particular, All-Clad has continued the pleasing performance reported at the half-year and the 2002 acquisitions of Spring and Cash's Mail Order businesses have been quickly integrated into the Group and are showing growth.
