Following a severe decade-long crisis, the downturn in the Italian construction sector finally appears to have bottomed out, confirming the return to positive territory first observed in 2016.

The construction industry is expected to perform strongly over the four-year period 2019-2022 with growth levels higher than 2% but slowing gradually: +2.5% in 2019; +2.3% in 2020; +2.1% in 2021; and +1.7% in 2022. New residential construction is expected to come to a standstill in 2023 as sector-wide growth drops below 1%.
