Ce.Si invests in a new Sacmi-Nuova Sima storage line
Ceramica di Sirone (Ce.Si.), a major player in the Italian high quality floor and wall tile industry for over 60 years, has been supplied with a complete storage line from Sacmi-Nuova Sima.
The line is equipped with a storage system that uses LGVs, box storage units and loading-unloading machines. The LGVs form the heart of the new line and are equipped with on-board rotating laser scanners for automatic identification of the vehicle’s position inside the plant. This allows the on-board computer to calculate the route in real time without any need for physical guides or floor references. Vehicles are also in radio contact with a ground-based central controller which sends instructions for individual missions and regulates in-plant operations. Safety devices are used to slow down the vehicles when obstacles are encountered and to ensure lateral load protection and worker safety. The speed of the LGVs has been increased to more than 1 m/s with a maximum load-carrying capacity of 6500 kg.
Nuova Sima also supplied a ground-based computerised station which collects all the machine pick-and-place requests and combines them to optimise LGV routing and efficiency by means of the user-friendly operator interface.
In parallel with this order, Ce.Si has also adopted a new Sacmi-Intesa digital printer equipped with 5 colour bars complete with flow-fill ink distribution devices. The printer, which has independent colour modules that can easily be removed from the central platform, has a native resolution of 360 dpi and an effective fired product printing width of 300 mm. It is equipped with an automatic cleaning system and a touch screen interface.
