Increase in exports of Italian tiles
According to the Assopiastrelle survey, the Italian tile industry exported almost 215 million square metres of tiles to a value of 2 billion euro.
In particular, exports to EU countries totalled 106 million square metres (1.64% up on the same period in 2003) corresponding to a value of 1.034 billion euro (up 5.01%).
The average price continues to increase, up 3.31% to reach 9.38 euro per sq.m.
Italian tile exports are increasing towards all European countries with the exception of Germany and Spain, where however the fall in exported quantities (-1.72% and -5.19% respectively) is partly offset by an increase in value (+3.62% for Germany and +1.53% for Spain).
Average prices are increasing in all European Union countries with the exception of Ireland (-0.24%) and Portugal (-2.34%).
Exports to non-EU countries have also increased uniformly with the exception of Poland, which has experienced a 6.22% fall in volume.
As for the other continents, exports to the Americas have risen by 3.19% in volume, including a 5.45% increase in the United States (the Italian tile industry’s largest market in 2003, with a 6.75% increase in value and 1.3% rise in average price).
The figures for Asia are oscillating around zero: +0.25% in volume and -0.56% in value to a total of 17.509 million square metres, corresponding to a value of almost 145 million euro.
Australia-Oceania is showing a marked fall (-4.60% in volume and -3.88% in value), with a worsening of the trend that was already in evidence last year.
Africa by contrast has seen a reversal of the negative figures for the first half of 2003: from -7.69% in volume to +2.36% and from -8.70% in value to +3.64%, and with a 4.63% increase in average price to 4.63 euro.
