Marazzi to expand factory in Finale Emilia
In agreement with parent company Mohawk Industries, the world-leading ceramic tile manufacturer Marazzi announced on 22 September that it has launched a major new investment to expand its Finale Emilia (Modena) facility. After suffering damage in the May 2012 earthquake, the facility was rebuilt to the strictest seismic safety standards and has undergone continuous development work.
The new investment involves the construction of industrial buildings and the installation of two new complete lines for the production of high-quality glazed porcelain, increasing the facility's capacity from the current 3.5 million sq.m/year to more than 6 million sq.m/year. The plant will use latest-generation technologies, making it one of the most advanced and innovative facilities in the world while ensuring the highest levels of efficiency in terms of the environment and worker safety. In particular, production capacity will be doubled while maintaining the same emission levels.
The new plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2015 without the need to entirely halt production.
"We have a very good understanding with our parent group Mohawk," commented CEO Mauro Vandini, "and are pursuing a clear strategy: to focus on the recognised excellence of Italian ceramic tiles and to do so by investing in innovation and eco-sustainability of production technologies, expertise and safety of human resources and the extremely high quality expected of Italian products. I believe that continuing to invest in our earthquake-struck facility in spite of the continued uncertainties in the market reflects our Group's determination to restart from the local area and to build on the excellent quality for which the Marazzi brand name is renowned worldwide."
