New Ceramica San Nicola factory built in PugliaBari, 3 July 2002 - The factory belonging to the newly-formed company Ceramica San Nicola located at Corato, province of Bari, Italy is expected to become operative by the end of 2002. The production plant for this factory (see photo), announced as the most important in Southern Italy, has been ordered from Sacmi by Vincenzo D'Introno, owner of the company Ceramica Base located in the same town.
The factory will have an initial production of 12,000 square metres/day of porcelain tiles. "The importance of the investment," the company explains in a press release, "is due to the fact that a ceramic cluster may grow up around Corato. The plant will be an important source of spray-dried powder for various product types and will therefore be a major advantage for other ceramic companies that decide to set up in the area."

For the supply of spray-dried powders, the Corato plant will be equipped with a 70,000-litre continuous mill. Another mill of the same size will be used by the Ceramica San Nicola plant to produce porcelain tiles. The plant will also be equipped with discontinuous mills and all the other machinery needed to produce coloured powders. Downstream, there will be four PH 3590 presses, each equipped with double-action filler boxes (Sacmi MDR and ACD). As these are easily interchangeable, the plant will be able to produce full body and/or glazed tiles. The four presses will channel the tiles into four EVA 992 vertical driers and they will subsequently be fired in two FMS250/88.2 m porcelain tile kilns.
