New Duravit factory in India
The well-known German sanitaryware and bathroom furniture manufac-turer Duravit has laid the first stone of a new production facility in India. The factory will be located in Tarapur, Gujarat state, on an approximately 170,000 square metre site and will have an initial production capacity of 500,000 pieces per year and some 250 employees. Duravit has been oper-ating in the Indian market since 2003 and is well positioned in the luxury segment. It is now looking to penetrate the mid market segment as well as a number of export markets.
The company currently sells its products in more than 80 countries and manufactures in various factories in Germany and worldwide: Hornberg, Schenkenzell and Meißen (Germany), Bischwiller (France), Cairo (Egypt), Istanbul (Turkey), Chongqing (China) and since May 2008 also in Biserta (Tunisia).
The new Indian production facility is due to start up before the end of 2009.
