Portobello starts up new porcelain slab production plant equipped with Sacmi Continua+ technology

The new plant in Tijucas, Brazil, capable of producing slabs up to 1800x3600 mm in size was started up last autumn. A large digital event was held on 14 October to mark the launch of the new collections.

Portobello, one of Brazil’s largest ceramic tile manufacturers, began production at its new slab plant in Tijucas (Santa Catarina) last autumn. The heart of the plant is Sacmi’s new Continua+ PCR 3000 line, capable of producing slabs in sizes up to 1800x3600 mm, with low or high thicknesses and with smooth or textured surfaces directly in the press. Accessories supplied by Sacmi include the MDX 3000 device for continuous density control, a 7-tier E7P dryer and, upstream from the compactor, a DDD 3000 4-colour decorating unit for dry powder deposit.

Renowned for its versatility, productivity, low levels of waste, reduced consumption and digital synchronisation of all process phases, the Continua+ line was chosen by Portobello for its Projeto Lastras, an ambitious project to create large porcelain slabs that combine design, functionality and environmental sustainability.

To celebrate the start-up of the new plant and to mark the market launch of the new extra-large size collections, Portobello organised a major digital event in October called Unlimited. The exhibition brought together big names in the world of architecture to illustrate the opportunities offered by porcelain slabs, describe the production process and present the new the Portobello Shop concept based on the use of these surfaces. The event was attended by more than 5000 professionals from the world of architecture, decoration and design.
