SanMarco-Terreal Italia acquires Pica
SanMarco-Terreal Italia, part of the world-leading clay building materials multinational Terreal group, has finalised its acquisition of the historic Pesaro-based brick and tile maker Pica following a brief period in which it leased the business.
The operation significantly strengthens SanMarco-Terreal Italia’s position in the field of clay building envelope solutions in both the domestic (especially central and southern Italian) and export markets.
The acquisition of Pica is part of the growth strategy pursued by SanMarco with the aim of increasing its competitiveness and offering an ever wider range of extruded floor and wall materials. Pica, which has a production facility in Pesaro and showroom/warehouse in Rome, manufactures and sells extruded and soft mud clay elements for roofs, facades and floors.
The two businesses combined are expected to generate a turnover of approximately 10 billion euros in 2018 and employ around 60 people full time.
Commenting on the acquisition, Fernando Cuogo, general manager of SanMarco - Terreal Italia, said: “The brick and tile market in Italy will never return to the levels of 10 years ago, so it is vital for companies to concentrate and rationalise their portfolios. The acquisition of Pica fulfils this need. It is a very well-known brand which is immediately being integrated with SanMarco – Terreal, enabling us to achieve a stronger and more uniform presence throughout the domestic marketplace while at the same time consolidating our position in international markets.”
