Saudi Ceramics starts up porcelain tile production

21/02/05 - Saudi Ceramics, one of the largest ceramic tile manufacturers in the Middle East, recently announced that it is set to enter the high-end segment of the porcelain tile market.

Production will begin in the second quarter of 2005 and will comprise tiles in many sizes up to 1x1 m in various finishes and textures.
The investments, estimated at about 41.5 million euro, will also include increasing production capacities, modernisation of plants and the introduction of new products and sizes.
The expansion project will be concluded in 2007 when production capacity should reach about 30 million square metres.

A previous investment that was completed in 2004 involved modernising the plant and increasing production by adding 6 million square metres, bringing output to 16 million sq.m/year.
Improvements were also made to the sanitaryware factory (1.8 million pieces/year), where computerised robot-spraying machines and new pressure casting machines were installed.

Saudi Ceramics also produces electric water heaters. It closed 2004 with a turnover of 66.6 million euro, 12% up on 2003.
