Toto Cuoghi has died
The Sassuolo ceramic district has lost another of its founding figures. Antonio Cuoghi, or simply “Toto” for everyone who know him, died yesterday at the age of 78 following a long illness.
A pioneer of the ceramic industry, in the 1960s he founded Edilcuoghi to which he later added Sichenia and several other companies. These were subsequently incorporated into an industrial group that grew to become one of the top ten ceramic groups in the world.
A sports and football enthusiast, he was chairman of the Sassuolo football team during the 1966-67 championship and sponsored the Sassuolo volleyball team Edilcuoghi which won the Coppa Italia in 1981.
Antonio Cuoghi is survived by his wife Lalla Berselli and his children Dedi and Ettore.
The funeral will be held at 2.30 p.m. today in the cathedral of San Giorgio in Sassuolo.
