Horizon 2020 chooses environmental sustainability from Manfredini & Schianchi

Manfredini & Schianchi has received a major new recognition for its commitment to developing environmentally friendly technologies for the ceramic industry.

The Horizon 2020 European funding programme, set up to support innovation on the part of SMEs, has selected a new research project from the Sassuolo-based company out of more than 1500 submissions from across the EU.

Based on the company's extensive know-how in the field of dry grinding technologies (its core business with machines that include the Molomax mill and Madirex granulator), the new project aims to develop an innovative granulation plant based on technologies currently in the process of validation and capable of further improving the performance of dry milled product for the production of ceramic tiles.

As part of the company's efforts to develop sustainable technologies with low environmental impact, the new plant will bring significant water savings in the production process as well as major reductions in energy consumption (as drying is not required) and atmospheric emissions of CO2.

The research project will have a duration of more than 12 months.
