New Marazzi factory in RussiaModena, 5 September 2002 - Marazzi has announced that it is building a factory in Russia for the production of glazed and unglazed porcelain tile, large formats included, for the medium to high market segment. This important factory will be built on a 20-hectare site located 60 km south of Moscow and given in concession to the company for 50 years with the right of redemption at the end of this period. With 4 kilns operating at full capacity, the factory will have an expected production of about 10 million square metres and will serve markets in Russia and neighbouring countries. A total of 50-60 people will work in the factory. The imposing complex will involve a total investment of about 30 million euro and a large Italian workforce will stay in Russia for the period of preparation of the factory. The factory will use raw materials from the clay deposit located near the city of Donetsk, in the Ukraine (photo shows view of region), in which Marazzi has a 50% stake while the remaining 50% belongs to local shareholders. Currently about one-third of the clay used by the Italian and Spanish ceramic tile industry originates from this deposit, which extends over an area of about 220 hectares. Marazzi.jpg
